Community Arts Idea
Hinton Mural Festival & Community Murals Initiative
Public art has the power to tell stories, build pride, and transform everyday places into shared cultural landmarks. Through community conversations, one idea keeps surfacing: Hinton wants more murals.
MECA is exploring a Hinton Murals Program that could grow into a mural festival anchored in local stories.
A community-led approach
MECA is forming a Murals Sub-Committee to invite artists, community members, organizations, building owners, and partners to help shape what the program could look like. This group will be a collaboration table that brings together diverse perspectives.
What the Murals Sub-Committee will do
- gather community input and artist perspectives
- explore potential mural sites and themes
- learn from other communities and mural festivals
- consider funding, partnerships, and sustainability
- develop guiding principles (fair pay, consent, maintenance, etc.)
- help determine whether and how a mural festival could take shape
