Susan Thompson — Painter

Susan Thompson picked up a brush during the pandemic and uncovered a talent for moody, hope-filled landscapes.

Her canvases capture the light threading through Folding Mountain, Spirit Island, and the rivers that weave around Hinton.

Painting light through darkness

Self-taught but guided by her mother’s oil-painting influence, Susan’s work often highlights light breaking through shadow—like her People’s Choice piece Dawn’s Hope.

Landmarks with heart

Susan paints Folding Mountain, Miette, Spirit Island, and local rivers. She also creates whimsical animals on wood slabs and rocks for markets.

Community curator

As curator for the Hinton Art Club, she installs exhibitions at the Hinton Centre, Lakeview Inn & Suites, and other venues—showcasing work that’s also for sale.

Hidden details

Recent paintings hide playful elements for viewers to discover, encouraging people to lean in and find the surprises.

“It’s never too late. If you have something you want to do, do it. If you’re good at it, wonderful. If you’re not, you tried.”
